Wedding DJ at Tithe Barn Ditcham

Tithe Barn in Ditcham is one of Hampshire’s most well known barn wedding venues, just outside Petersfield. The beautiful stone barn, open countryside and relaxed atmosphere make it a fantastic setting for a lively evening reception once the formal part of the day is over.

Having DJ’d a very large number of weddings at Tithe Barn over the years, I know the venue extremely well and understand how to make the evening reception work smoothly within the space. The barn fills quickly once the dancing starts, and with the right music the dance floor usually stays busy all night.

The evening reception at Tithe Barn

Tithe Barn weddings tend to produce a fantastic party atmosphere. Guests of all ages gather inside the barn once the evening reception begins, and the combination of classic party favourites, sing-along tracks and modern hits quickly brings people onto the dance floor.

During the day, the large barn doors are often open, creating a lovely connection between the barn and the surrounding countryside. As the evening reception gets underway, everything moves seamlessly inside for a warm and atmospheric party.

The meadow outside the barn is also a popular spot for guests to gather with drinks before the dancing really gets going.

DJ setup at Tithe Barn

Because of the layout of the barn there are several possible DJ setup locations, and the ideal position depends on how the tables are arranged for your wedding breakfast.

If guest tables are positioned at the ceremony end of the barn, the best DJ location is usually the bay to the right of the bar. This works well because it keeps the dance floor close to the bar and allows guests who want a quieter conversation to sit further away from the music.

If tables are arranged at the kitchen end of the barn and guest numbers are more modest, the bay to the left of the bar can work very well. For slightly larger weddings, the middle bay on the same side of the bar provides a good balance between the dance floor and the seating area.

For larger weddings the DJ setup is often best positioned centrally on the gable end wall at the ceremony end of the barn, facing down the full length of the room. This layout makes the most of the barn’s impressive space and creates a natural focal point for the dance floor.

Choosing the right position helps keep the atmosphere lively while still allowing guests to enjoy the evening comfortably.

Sound and lighting

Tithe Barn does not provide its own PA system or lighting for evening receptions, which means professional sound and lighting makes a huge difference to the atmosphere once the party begins.

My setup includes a high quality sound system that fills the barn clearly without being overwhelming, along with lighting that transforms the space once the evening reception starts.

Uplighting can also be added around the barn to enhance the atmosphere even further, and many couples choose to hire a separate PA system with wireless microphones for speeches and background music earlier in the day.

The venue does use sound level monitors, but they are set at a sensible level that allows a lively dance floor while still respecting the surroundings.

Music at Tithe Barn normally finishes at 11pm from Sunday to Thursday, and at 11.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
